Considering to hire a function band can be such a great idea to make your planned party of the year a successful one. Whether it is your very own wedding party, or your daughter’s'th birthday, or just a special occasion you want to celebrate, you can expect it to turn into a grand event, more than what you have ever expected.

 

Live music can take a party from good to great and top flight entertainment will have people talking for years to come. However this will only happen if you hire the right people and follow a few simple rules.

 

Getting a recommendation by word of mouth is the cheapest and most effective way in finding the right function band for you. In fact, you do not have to spend a single dime at all. Maybe your neighbors can recommend someone that can play good music, or your friend may have his or her own function band.

 

The proof is in the pudding, and if you have the opportunity to do so, you should try to check out a function band’s performance in person so that you can determine if they are the group for your next event. If you do not have the chance to hear the band live, ask is they have any online demo material. You can even check out their website or online videos. Checking the band in this manner is a really good idea; remember, you get what you pay for, and you don’t want to hire a band that sounds great- but looks horrible!

 

Ask the function band representative or manager for their prices to play at events and for the songs that they can play during the expected party. You should only hire a band that possesses professionalism towards negotiations. If this band does not have something written, then forget about them and just look for another one. Often, a non-refundable 10-20% amount will be charged to ensure that they will come on the expected date and time.

 

Also, make sure that the function band can play requests from the audience. Most of them would as long as you give them enough time to prepare for everything.

 

If it is at all possible you could ask to see their equipment, which should be up to date and safe. Ensure that they will follow all the safety procedures necessary, for example there should be no loose electric cables lying around.

 

Ask about their manner of dress when they are appearing at a function. If their attire will be totally out of place maybe you can steer them toward more appropriate clothing. Do not be too hard on them though, after all some bands that are very talented are also a bit “eccentric”.

 

Most of the time, the function band is required to show up an hour before the party begins. It is important that they set up and sound check stuff that normal bands would do. Giving them the program or the flow of the party as this would also help the band; this way they know when they should play and when they should not.

 

All eyes will be on the function band when they take the stage. Do take a little extra time to go over the details when they arrive. Your band choice could make your function the event of the year and make your event a talking point for weeks afterward!
