Bluesy brass instruments on stage here, folks! Had the great opportunity to play some tuba blues with Mats Johnsson. I love this instrument, if you ask me it’s THE coolest bass instrument around, hehe.. Hopefully we’ll get some chances to do some gigs together in the future!

ellisguitars.com ellisguitars.com.au http I play the 8 string resonator with a lower than usual action, especially considering that I use it for some bottleneck slide. The lower action means I can get a dirtier sound with the string slapping, against the frets/fretboard when I play. The string spacing / nut width specs are very similar to a 12 string guitar with the nut width being approx 50mm. Currently my tunings are: Main open A tuning from low to high AEAEAC# e/e This changes very easily to standard tuning with a low A bass string AEADGB e/e From the main open A tuning I can also very easily get to what I think the most practical tunoing for the general public – Open D tuning with a low A (this is how I played Jeff Martin’s 7 string), low to high ADADF# A d/d Since successfully showcasing the Ellis 7 string resonator (now the property of Jeff Martin of The Tea Party), Andrew Ellis and James Michael Thompson have been quietly designing, troubleshooting and eventually building what is truly a unique instrument and a world first. It is a Baritone Tricone Resonator guitar with eight strings, designed for bottleneck and finger-style playing. Thompson had previously been playing a regular six string National style resonator guitar for a short time before being asked to demonstrate Ellis’ unique 7 string resonator at the Frankston Guitar Festival in March 2005. Shortly after, the pair discussed coming up with something that could be even more curious. Thompson was using

An American treasure, Mac Arnold plays his homemade 3 string guitars like they did in the past…if you want to play true primitive Delta Blues, it is impossible playing a 6 string neck on a cigar box, try it the way it was done in the 1880′s….just add few strings and creative playing…that’s where the sound and tone come from, it’s simplicity….and if you haven’t , build a three string guitar today! video clips copyright is Uncovering America for more info on these fun to play American instruments, visit 3-string-guitar.com or just google red Dog Guitars!

1931 Chevrolet Blues..!!

Me and my friends found us an old vintage Chevy!!! 1931 is the year and it’s an amazing car/truck, felt great to play some tunes on it!! We took some pics for use on CD covers and posters, so of course we had to tune our instruments and play!! The mando is truly a “note-cannon”… I play without picks here and it’s not easy to be heard next to a reso-mandolin, haha!!!! More trio-info here: www.johaneliasson.com

The Delta Blues Undocumented Facts

visit www.3-string-guitar.com and you can learn more if you enjoy the cigar box guitar. This short film is part 3 of the forgotten facts about the Blues, for some reason people seem to think that expensive steel body Dobros and Stratocasters are instruments the Blues was founded on, the truth is people in poverty couldn’t afford them, they had to make there own guitar. Muddy Waters played a Fender at age 45….but sitting on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi at age 15, buying a guitar was not an option and just a dream…this is how he did it….this is how he got his start. This is the combined collection of Shane Speal’s cigar box guitars, Bill Jehle’s museum and some of my photos I have collected over the years. I have so many more photos but tried to pick the best and most colorful guitars from the museum for you to see. I only had only 4 minutes for the video but about 400 antique Cigar box guitar shots so I could only choose about 30. I’d like to thank Shane for his dedication to document the history and researching the cigar box guitar. There is so much more to learn but only one lifetime, I hope all viewers of this short film understand the countless hours spent gathering all this information and I hope you enjoy….most important, try it yourself…build a cigar box guitar and ask yourself…”Do I have Beans?????”

www.sistersingrease.com Playing Jim’s Cafe again 3pm Sun 29th Aug 2010 COLNE BLUES FESTIVAL. Title song by Sisters in Grease dedicated to all those artistes and friends no longer “able to make it” to the show. Bless them all and remember….This isn’t the rehearsal….This is the gig. “Your mother’s insane and your sister’s in Grease!” That sounds like Smokey, that ringing in my ear, Surely no…that’s banned in here, can I offer you a beer? I was found in Russia with a Russian Girl, I was hungry, I was hungry. How can I tell you you’re a prisoner in here, How can I tell you the answers never clear, When your mother’s insane and your sister’s in Grease. Never time to talk never much to say, never sure we can, Find simplicity and a new way out solution and a plan, All you think about’s the Russian Girl, Are you lonely? Are you lonely? It’s just my immagination or maybe the age of the train, But if we can’t get away from here we’ll live this day again, I went and spoke to the Russian Girl, And she told me, yeah she told me.
