The first new Satan and Adam album in 12 years is now available for immediate download: www.tradebit.com WORD ON THE STREET, recorded in 1989 on the streets of Harlem and Jersey City, contains 14 tracks of original and traditional material, all transformed into gritty street funk-blues by Satan and Adam (Sterling Magee and Adam Gussow). ***By the way: the harmonica that I’m playing in this video is a Genesis custom-tuned Marine Band, remanufactured by Randy Sandoval. My apologies to Randy, who generously donated this fine harp to my YouTube cause. What can I say? I’m an absent-minded professor: www.genesisharmonicas.net
Gussow begins with a long story evoking hot summer days as a street musician in Harlem and the “watermelon man” who cooled things off. He plays the head, amplified and with overblows, then slows and dissects it. The song is a cha-cha beat. Note: Satan and Adam recorded Hancock’s tune on their second CD, MOTHER MOJO.
